| no partners | | After hiking Pastora Peak, we drove over to Roof Butte (elevation of 9,800 feet and prominence of 3,140 feet) and drove to the top of the mountain, and parked about 30 feet from the benchmark fliver.
I went to Roof Butte last year, but my hiking buddy hadn't, and I didn't mind going over there again. The road to the summit is much, much better than the road we were on earlier in the day going to Pastora Peak, but you still need 4WD.
We walked around on top for a bit and enjoyed the nice views. The benchmark is on the NW end of the mountain, but the highpoint is on the SE end, so we made the short walk to the highpoint. There is also an old fire lookout up there.
This is one of the more enjoyable summits that I have been on top of. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Moderate There were some nice yellow aspen leaves on and not far below the summit, which was nice to see. However, there are better places in AZ for aspen foliage. |
