| no partners | | Got bogged down with paperwork about 5:30 this morning and lost track of time.
Thank goodness for cooler temps. It was 72 degrees at 10:45 when I got to the jump off point.
Tumacaccori was covered in clouds and the thunder was rolling to the North.
I began where Wise Mesa ends above Peck Canyon and headed down Gasline road on foot... and on butt.
This is a road I've looked at for years to take the truck down but thought it prudent to hike it first.
Good thing I did. From the mesa to the creek bed is a little less than half a mile.
The truck could have made it just fine until the last 50 feet. Here the road resembles a cliff more than a road.
The road that heads out of the canyon on the other side of Peck Canyon is even steeper. I didn't even try walking up it.
Instead, I headed West in the canyon along a cow path.
When I got to the Peck Canyon Window/Arch I headed up out of Ramanote canyon in a straight line. Above the Window I took my first break and cut it short when thunder rolled all around.
Luckily, I hit the top of the mesa right were I parked.
It was easier coming out of the canyon off the road that it was going down on the road. |
