| no partners | | Spent two windy half-days in N. Arizona. First day I visited a ruin on the eastern flat below Anderson Mesa. I'd been to this site before but later realized I'd missed the main ruin by a few hundred yards.
This time I found (I think) the main ruin but there's not much to see - I think the professional excavators reburied it. But similar to what I found on my previous there is plenty of pottery everywhere you look.
I walked up to the mesa top and was lucky to pass a petroglyph panel. My "circle" on the mesa top didn't find any obvious habitation sites but I did find an area with a higher concentration of pottery pieces and flaked rock. On the way back I spent more time at the ruin site looking at the pottery on the ground.
I like the area. A maze of ranch roads fairly challenging for a Subaru. Probably visited only by hunters, I had a herd of about 15 deer cross in front of my car and I was surprised to see recent footprints during my random walk on the mesa top. |
