The plaques and markers are the best of the four mini trails in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve (Bajada at Gateway, Kovach at LDW, Jane Rau at BR). The saguaro timeline is worth your time to visit. The Selfie Station is so perfect. More in depth the station plaques and StoneMan Road is surface scratch of that story. There is a photo on the wall at this Trailhead that includes me, Caroline (@Baby4AZ) and George from when I was in charge of Sonoran Sundays for families for the Conservancy. Cool to show George the pic and the Steward who was there couldn’t quite understand that it was me in the pic and I am an old Class 46 steward —— but that’s ok because he gave George a Fraesfield sticker. And he made sure we had a plan for our hike. I love seeing Tom’s Thumb from Whiskey Bottle trail and now with this nature trail - the expansive ridgeline is even more beautiful. Flowers minimal today. The saguaro metal timeline is worth the visit if you are nearby. George is working on his hiking merit badge for Scouts and he needs a few hikes under two miles - so we checked all the boxes today. I reminded him that I have the All Trails Club spreadsheet for the Preserve when he’s ready to conquer it. |
