| partners | | Son George (12 yrs old now!) and I went on wildflower chase today on the trails at Apache Wash TH. I had used the HAZ wildflower feature to narrow down my options - and the report was definitely accurate! You can’t really tell from the parking lot but it’s a complete carpet of flowers in all directions. Almost equal purple to yellow which you don’t see all the time. So many different types of yellow - but man if you are achy for some poppies - the place is flush with them on so many slopes. Was little crowded but really desolate compared to McDowells. Huge storm came in just after we got to the car. George is in Boy Scouts and he helped two lost people - so sweet. we never get to hike just the two of us - was so nice. He was wearing new small Camelback he got for his birthday and some cool shades I bought at the Masters last year. I asked him to guess the ACCUMULATED elevation gain before I checked it - and he was so close - he said 400. He is a stats guy with hikes and backpacking. He knows all his past speeds and miles etc - he said in a group trip you’re only as fast as your weakest link. Yep George yep. Good life lessons in Scouts. |

Wildflowers Observation Substantial All y’all flowers out there like wow. Purple gaining on yellow for dominance. Poppies are as described in previous accounts this week - explosive , full hill blankets of poppies. Brittle bush not doing much. Extremely green overal. |
