I was sweating like a pig. Shed my outer shirt and was glad I had on tank underneath - got sunburned in weird spots where sweat took powder sunscreen off. Used almost all my water.
Great solitude because the small parking lot limits hoards from being on trail. I thought I might need a nap at top of trail after staying up too late night before. BF grilled out the three ducks he got few weekends ago when we were around Heber/Payson. Yummy grilled duck inside peppers wrapped in bacon with spicy cream cheese. He spent day shooting with his Father using a new ultra- long range fancy gun and I drove to Sedona to do my thing.
After hike I changed into less drenched and clean clothes - went to restaurant for lunch that I’ve tried to go to twice before but always wait is too long. The Hudson. (So pretentious “the”) This time bar empty - devoured salmon salad before driving back home.
Next time I plan to do south overlook spur and get all the way to the top. And despite living in AZ since 2003.... I can’t seem to remember that summer doesn’t end until November 1st. Hiking in pants and long sleeves about did me in on this exposed sunny 85degree morning-lunch time hike. |
