After breakfast hike from home over the Surrey Hills saddle to the Slate TH and then down to the Menk Trail. Someone installed some fake birds in a Palo Verde tree on the summit of the little overlook hill . They looked real until you got close.

After the Menk trail we bush whacked over to the creek to check out the flow after the flood of a few days ago. It's crossable but still almost knee high in most places. Fresh debris was easily 5 feet high in the tamarisk branches. The bosque area trees are leafing out and the wildflowers were substantial but still nowhere near their peak which is yet to come. The Brittlebush, Owl Clover, and Desert Globemallow are coming on strong.
