| no partners | | We went out to do our little partial climb up Black Mountain after lunch and Cathy remembered that today was the 20th anniversary of the date engraved on a cross she found near the top of a hill to our east.
The cross is marked "Hoover" with the date 3-22-03 and the letters A.F.F.A. We went up to pay a visit.
Cathy always just assumed it was the grave of someones beloved pet. It has cement and steel substructure supporting the wood cross. Being somebodys "good boy" she always placed a piece of quartz on the grave every time she made the climb up there.
Well,as Gomer Pyle would say..."Surprise, surprise, surprise". [ youtube video ] .
Cathy did a little research with Mr. Google and found that "Hoover" is actually Daniel "Hoover" Seybert who was the President of the Cave Creek Chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. A former member of the Dirty Dozen he was murdered on 3-23-2003 in front of Bridgett's Last Laugh comedy club on Cave Creek Road. Details can be found online for those who care to know more. Needless to say, it was an assasination and it remains unsolved to this day. More info in my photo captions.
The washes are running nicely after all the rain we've had. Lot's of people hiking the mountain today and Cathy isn't putting any more rocks on Hoover's cross.  |
