| no partners | | Another chapter in exploring the mountain we live on. This time we went to the southwestern slope of Black Mountain where there are the fewest homes to keep trespassing to a bare minimum. Our goal was to make it up to the historic Mormon Girl Mine.
We made it to within 1/2 mile of the main mine entrance but turned around as we didn't have the proper shoes and enough water to continue. The scramble up the slope that we did do was extremely steep and loose. Three and four points of contact were needed in places, especially coming down. Gloves and a trekking pole would have helped a lot. Cathy had a pole but wouldn't share.
We saw lots of adits and air shafts on the way up. The tunnel complex inside the mountain is extensive with many horizontal and vertical shafts with ladders. We will go back next week with better preparation.
