| no partners | | This close to home double lasso loop hike is one of our favorites in the Tonto National Forest. Rain in the forecast over the next couple of days so today was the day. The creek was flowing strong and after the first few crossings out of Spur Cross I gave up trying to stay dry and just waded across on the remainder.
FR 1533 is a single track so I refer to it as a trail rather than a forest road. The northern sections have been decimated by newly introduced cattle. The Forest Service recently signed a new grazing lease with someone and the cows are really tearing things up. The lower areas south of the fence line are still in good shape. The horseback ride concessionaire has been doing some wonderful maintenence on Cottonwood Trail 247 so hopefully they find the time to give 1533 some much needed love.
Saw no hikers after leaving Spur Cross but ran into the unwashed masses on the Metate Trail towards the end of the hike. |
