| partners | | Yella came up with this plan as an alternative to a meeting up in town somewhere normal. Bloomin' weeds look great on the drive out the 88. We put in at Boulder and went upstream. I knew the water was about 3 feet below normal, so we had a short sand scoot to get back to where boulder hits the lake. It was still flowing nicely. Not bad for mid-April. A hiker could easily wade this stretch at this water level rather than going up and over (showing 1655 with 5 ft. remaining ... though I can't recall it ever being above the 1658/2 ft. remaining level).
From there we paddled past the marina and upstream into Tortilla. Funny cause for some reason I'd never pieced together mentally that it drained into the lake this way and not farther upstream. Something about that big hill you drive over between Canyon and the burger joint. Really pretty narrows actually, and a great destination for paddlers.
No traffic on the lake as midweek April apparently isn't a thing for other people. Sunset was cloudless and boring, and the insects were brutal at dusk. Nonetheless we made it back to the launch without incident. |
