| no partners | | Deborah had come to town to retreive her RV from storage to take it back home to Flathead Lake. She stayed at Usery for a couple nites before heading up to Cave Creek Regional Park for a couple nites. So I put together a little hike we could do. She had hiked in the area last year. I picked her and Duke up and we headed out from Go John parking area.
We hiked up Go John and then hung a left at Clay Mine Trail and on to Overton. There were a couple bike riders that took off at the same time (counterclockwise up Go John/down Overton) and we would see them as we started on the Overton. The Overton still afforded us some shade so that was nice. We passed a group that were with a ranger apparently doing the flora tour. We would encounter a few other hikers as we headed up to the north saddle. The breeze also seemed to pick up and stayed with us for the hike off and on  .
I did notice some wildflowers on our hike including a couple Delphinium, several Tansy Aster, lots of Buckwheat, a couple Mariposa Lilys, a few Desert Trumpets and some waning Owl Clover as well as others I'm not sure of. As we hiked south up the Go John I pointed out to Deborah where the old trail went before the reroute in 2007 (it used to go right next to the mine on the north side). Going down the hill always seems a little longer than I anticipate as there is an extra switchback in there that I forget about.
The gusty breeze really picked up as we got further down the hill. We almost got blown over by a big gust of wind and dust. I decided it was still cool enough to continue the hike so we headed east on the Go John and hooked up with Jasper to Slate. We stopped by the Michelin Saguaro. I didn't realize there was a bench with a little trail there; I guess I hadn't gone this way in a while. We also saw a couple bunnies cross the trail. We continued east up and down through the little gullies before arriving at the Quartz Junction where we sat at the bench, had a snack and enjoyed the view. The teddy chollas were starting to bloom. Oh, Duke was now a dusty Duke (he's a small black dog).
We headed on back only seeing two other hikers as we continued on the Slate Trail rather than taking Jasper. We did notice a couple saguaros with some blooms. We got back to Tonto 3 and then drove to the covered picnic area to have a beer. The ocotillos were blooming prolificly in this area.
