| no partners | | Counterclockwise from 38th St TH. When I first started it was a little warm but once I turned the corner at the west side the breeze picked up and I felt good enough to finish my planned route. It's amazing what a difference that breeze makes for me and thus why I am always under/near a fan during gym class, ha!
I headed around the west side and then up the hill to VOAZ, a nice little up before continuing the up on VOAZ shoe. I think somewhere along here I swallowed a gnat, yuck! The lemon yellow blooms of the Palo Verdes were lovely to see but I still can't seem to do it justice via my photographs. I forgot my Pany again too. I headed down the hill and over the 304 before veering toward the PERL shoe. This is where those pesky gnats decided to annoy me very aggressively.
I got around the shoe and then headed east back toward the TH. Nice to see the saguaros blooming so I snatched a few photos. It was pretty hiking back into the valley looking at all those beautifully blooming Palo Verdes too. But those yucky gnats made me hurry along where I eventually came up on some of the dog walkers I had seen over on the west side. When they turned for the last bit back to the TH the one dog did not want to go any further and they had to convince it the car was just around the corner .
I saw hikers, runners and some dog walkers and bike riders off and on throughout the hike and a few lizards. I could hear the bees quite a bit for the first mile but I either got used to the sound or they dissipated as I got to the interior of the Preserve. I was thinking of my friends Cathy and Greg many times throughout the hike. My legs were definitely done today between the gym classes and hiking I've done in the last six days.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
