| partners | | Kelly and I had originally planned a longer hike to take advantage of today’s cooler temps, but I overcommitted myself schedule-wise, so we had to lower our goals for the day. Picacho was a good consolation choice.
Kelly cruised up Hunter Trail while I tried not to die on the ascent. She paused enough for me to catch my breath several times. I’m out of shape. Spots of shade were a relief. Noticed some sections of cables have been replaced with a newer, thinner cable. Not a fan of the new cable, the older, girthier cable was much better to grip in both texture and diameter.
While we saw a handful of people descending just below the summit, we had the summit to ourselves the entire time we were up there. At the saddle just below the summit, we walked out to the west end and were treated to an easy scramble and some nice views, although the air was pretty dusty.
Straightforward hike back down, passed a few more hikers along the way. Fun morning, and good to hike with Kelly again. |
