After waiting until the final day to mail in my tax payments, Celina and I headed over to hike Maricopa Peak. Parked at 43rd Ave/Estrella and headed over the saddle to San Juan. It looked like there was some sort of photo/video shoot going on at the parking area.

Up Alta, then up to the peak. Passed one beehive next to the trail about halfway, but the bees were mellow. Lots of gnats and tarantula hawks. After a break, we headed back down, crossing paths with a speckled rattler. I commented that I hoped we wouldn’t encounter another rattler near the beehive and Celina asked why. “Because I don’t want to deal with two f@!king problems at once, that’s why.” Luckily the rest of the hike back down was uneventful. Hot, very little breeze.

Wildflowers Observation Isolated
Most everything is now dry. Saw a few poppies, globemallow, hedgehog. Ocotillo looks good. And a surprising amount of desert trumpet along the trail.
