My original plan was to hike the middle Highline, but the updated forecast mentioned high winds and much cooler air temps than expected. At the last minute, I switched to taking Dese hiking in lieu of the more involved motorcycle shuttle. It turned out well, starting early with cool temps and mostly sunny skies. The route is actually quite similar to the Highline, basically mundane, but with more overgrowth, more elevation change and a bigger payout at the end. Tonto Creek at the terminus reminded me a lot of Bright Angel Creek in GCNP. It's definitely a beautifully peaceful area. On our return, it was maxim Mogollon May, in that it was sunny and sprinkling, overcast and hailing, and windy with four thunder boomers. It seemed to be much more stormy, briefly to the south. We traversed over Apache Ridge on the return just for poos and giggles. This route would be brutal in the summer heat.
