Just try to ignore all the trash and used toilet paper interspersed among the Columbine and Lupine. The ~1000 foot off-trail, cut across ascent between the summits wasn't as brushy as it looked, so that was a pleasant surprise. The Mount Ord from Slate Creek route is still quite boring and the only things going for that hike are the elevated AEG and moderate mileage. I still consider this mountain an acceptable training ground for other nicer hikes located in better areas. Two other pluses are that you'll have low chances of getting bit by a viper because most of this SubORD loop route is on roads and you won't need a 4x4 to access the trailhead. |
