I decided to go back to an area I enjoyed on multiple trips about 9 years ago - the hills SW of Horseshoe Reservoir. I planned to walks some "new" random paths to see what I could see. I wasn't going to re-visit petroglyphs of the past but to maybe re-find some, and maybe encounter some new ones.

Since I was last there the road down to the lake has gotten worse and the hills have gotten taller

. I walked up a smallish wash, exited to a low ridge and was lucky to stumble on to a small ruin area. I first noticed some pottery and some vague room outlines, but then was surprised to see a nice black on white painted spindle whorl. That's pretty rare for me and I never found that nice an artifact on any of my previous trips here.

From there my random walk took me up a big hill but I didn't find anything of interest until I got to the hill that I knew to have plenty of petroglyphs. Even there though I found fewer than expected. I'm going to have to cross check vs. my old tracks to figure out how that happened. But no matter, it was enough to keep it interesting.
