(We've tried in the past but didn't have enough fuel or time or both). The sky alternated between overcast and sunny. The Castle Rock cut was closed so we had to go the longer route. We stopped a couple times but made it there! We tied at the dock and followed the trail to the bridge, which was just under 1 mile hike each way. We stayed under the shelter for a few minutes, as it was 102° and sunny at that point, then headed back. There were 2 other groups that went to the bridge while we were there. Everyone was respectful of the rules for this Navaho sacred site. On the way back, we stopped a few times for swimming and cliff jumping. We stopped at the cave with the hole in the roof, and at a couple islands. The water was surprisingly warm. It was also higher than it was at any of our previous trips over the last 4 years. We saw a group of bighorns go down to the lake to drink and run back up. Overall a good day on the lake. |
