Beautiful area. The adjacent campground was packed with people, and there were a number of vehicles parked on the side of the road near where the road crosses the creek. We parked on the side of the road and proceeded along the well-worn use trail next to the creek. There were a lot of people in the first 50 yards, many trying to fish in 2 inch deep water, then few people beyond that.

Eventually a long barbed wire fence crosses the creek and continues as far as we could see, but no indication of private property, so we crossed the fence and continued on the trail. The trail passes through a long meadow that had billions of grasshoppers hopping around, then ends at a dirt road. We stayed on the dirt road for about a half mile, but there were a few vehicles driving past and kicking up dust, so we left the road and headed back to the creek.

At that point, there was generally a well-defined use trail along the creek. Whenever the trail ended, we would typically cross the creek or continue a little further downstream and quickly find another use trail. The dirt road paralleled the creek until about 3 miles in, often well above the creek, with occasional vehicles driving by. There was also a persistent barbed wire fence along the creek most of the way, which we had to climb over or under a few times.

At approximately 2.5 miles in, we saw a medium-sized black bear approximately 100 yards ahead behind a tree, so I grabbed the bear spray, we stood tall, and made some noise, but then it meandered out and revealed itself as a black cow. It was accompanied by 5 other cows, so we went around them.

We went to about the 4 mile point, but there the creek flow decreased and the scenery became repetitive, so we turned around and headed back. The same group of cows were in the same spot as we passed by. We took the adjacent road for about 2 miles on the way back. Overall, beautiful riparian area, flat and easy, a nice escape once past the crowds.
