| partners | | Went hiking at Bisti in New Mexico, Haven't been here in over 14 years. This time instead of parking along side Hwy 371 we took dirt road 7297 to a designated parking area for Bisti(don't believe this lot was here 14 years ago, The Navajo lady that told me about it told me to drive to the wash Just past the curve in the highway and park alongside the road and head upstream). There were about a half dozen cars in the parking lot when we arrived. This is one of those hikes you don't need a GPS to guide you, you just go wherever looks fascinating. Check out many of the side canyons as that's where all the good stuff is. Head upstream about 2.5 miles checking out each of the side canyons as you go and petrified logs start appearing in the formations. Also check out the egg hatchery. I am still pondering what these egg shaped formation are and how they were formed, only found in one area that I saw. This was an extremely fun hike.
When we finished this hike we drove back up to Farmington to get something to eat and headed back to Bisti for some night sky pictures. There was a quarter moon out so the milky way was not as good as it could be. Did see lots of space stuff making it's way across the sky. Actually very pleasant at sunset in Bisti.
No need for wildflower report, Autumn color or water report, there is none, unless you consider tumble weeds a flower. I included in this triplog both hikes, the 8 mile day hike and the 1.6 mile night hike. Only the day hike route is posted. Most all the AEG is from climbing up and down the hills along the side canyons. |
