On the 4th day of our trip to Payson we went back to Tonto Creek to hike the Highline Trail west for 4.5 miles then returned the way we came. This hike takes you past the Zane Grey Cabin. Must have been really something back then when area wasn’t as populated. Really scenic hike through pine and juniper forest with sandstone outcrops along the way. We were only going to go 1.5 maybe 2 miles in before turning around but instead did almost 4.5 to Roberts Mesa before returning, Ginny’s idea not mine but I was happy to go along with it. There was no water along the trail. We finished the hike around 3 and headed back to Tucson. We will have to come back another time to finish up the Highline Trail, it is 57 miles long. I hiked the complete trail a few years back in pieces but Ginny hasn’t. Darn another trip to Payson.
