| no partners | | My step-daughter was in town this week and wanted to hike, so I decided to take her out to see the double arch.
The weather was over-cast and we got a few sprinkles during the hike, but it never developed into a rainshower.
We hiked down into the canyon from the upper parking area near the newly installed gate. The hike down is clear at times and the trail just disappears other times. Either way, you just hike down, whichever path you decide. Kim really enjoyed the catclaw and the other thorny plants (NOT). We explored a little in the canyon and then hiked up to the arches from the canyon floor.
The arches are as cool as ever. We opted to take the back way up and over the ridges back to the traihead. Such a cool area. The canyon is amazing and the arches are pretty awesome too. There was some serious geology going down in the place back in the day. Such unusual formations and erosion in this area.
We heard what we thought was hunters shooting on the way back, but when it started going rapid fire, it was clearly target practice. I had an experience in this canyon a few years ago with @outdoor_lover (Pam) with bullets literally flying over my head from a father and sons doing some shooting near FS80. I hear them whiz by! I didn't want a repeat of that. Luckily, either they ran out of bullets (or beer) and the shooting stopped before we got back to the truck.
Driving back to civilization, I could not help but notice the explosion of people living right off Hwy 88 the closer you get to AJ. Times are tough all over, I understand that, but why pick a spot 10 feet from a busy highway??? 2023 in America. |
