| partners | | Received an invite from Steve to do some poking around up on Perry Mesa with him and his friend Tom.
He didn't have to ask twice and today was the day. We met up near I-17 and Route 74 and he was gracious enough to drive. Good thing, as that place is a maze of ranch roads. He's been up up there countless times and had a nice little loop drawn up on his GPS.
Ended up under 3 miles but between the bushwhacking and the catclaw it felt like more. We examined a couple of large ruin complexes on the top of a ridge overlooking the remnants of the old Brooklyn Mine operation. From there we hiked to a cliff band that had some nice petroglyphs including a animal birthing scene and a seldom encountered example that was colored with red pigment (see photoset). Outstanding and well worth the steep rocky climb!
Thanks for the invite Steve and for the guided tour of just a small segment of this culturally and historically rich area. |
