| no partners | | Drew up 4 different variations for walks in this specific area: some emphasized hills, some washes but all included a stop at one of two hilltop petroglyph sites I'd found years ago. In the end I picked one that had both hill/ridge walking and creek walking.
Started by heading up the "known" petroglyph hill and the nice little site there. Continued walking along a ridge and up another hill but the rocks had changed from basalt to granite so chances for more petroglyphs plummeted. I sort of realized along the way that the hills further away from the flats (based on this and several previous hikes) just lack ancient cultural signs - not even pottery.
The walking wasn't too bad though. The catclaw was low enough it could be stepped on when necessary. When I got back to the flats I spent some time looking for a couple ruins which exist as dots on a low res map. Pretty sure I found one (based on artifacts) but no sign of an actual ruin possibly because the area slightly pre-dates the building of the large stone sites elsewhere on the mesa.
Perfect weather, nice day out.
