| no partners | | I started at First Water intending to do the upper loop and check out the falls. By the time I reached the turn-off to the creek, I decided to just stay on the Dutchman Trail. I wanted to go to Needle Canyon, but I was pretty sure I got too late a start for that one. I was less than a mile from the entrance when I had to turn back in the interest of getting out before dark. That was hard to do since I was so close. I really wanted to keep going, but I guess I'll just have to try this again with a much earlier start. While I was taking a break on the way back, I was talking to a couple who told me that there was a horse alone on Bull Pass. It had no tack, but was obviously domestic and was favoring one leg. Sounds like it was abandoned. Maybe it came up lame and the owner couldn't bring himself to shoot it (or didn't have a gun) and just stripped off the tack and left. Sad. It's been a tough year for horses in the Supes.
Again, I am surprised by the number of people out there on a weekday. Is it my imagination or are the Supes a lot more crowded than last year? As a weekday hiker, most of my trips last year were pretty solitary. Very often, I saw no one. Not so this year. Still, it was a great hike on a beautiful day. |
