| no partners | | Arizona Game and Fish has an educational series of events called Creature Features. I have done the Bat Netting and Canyon Lake Bighorn Sheep events, so when this came up it was a no-brainer to join. A Kayaking Birding Trip. Dusted off the Cameras and was on my way.
There ended up being about 6 participants and 3 AZGFD employees on the water, plus a dynamic retired AZGFD photographer who volunteers to photograph these events. That dude was insanely running up and down the shoreline following us, to get photos and videos of us on the water. Talk about dedicated. 
It was an absolutely perfect day on the water. Just a very light breeze, and the temp was perfect. Trying to shoot anything from a Kayak can be challenging, but birds? Yeah, it was insanely difficult. Not only were they moving, but unless I had basically drifted into something or the shore, I was moving too. I just couldn't stop the kayak from "drifting". Makes it very hard to keep focus on those tiny little eyes. Deleted 90% of my photos, but it was still a fun time and I will probably try some new tricks next time. The trees were just getting their springtime green going and hadn't filled in yet, so the birds were a bit easier to spot at least.
After the event was over, I decided to spend some more time in the area, so I headed for Goldwater Lake. More on that to come. |
