| no partners | | What a bizzaro day. Personally good. Drive down with strange drivers going like 40 on the interstate to a complete slaughter of a small group of racoons, look like mowed down by a semi. At the gas station 8 santa cruz police SUV's with 3 hauling a trailer with 2 ATVs per trailer. The light got one so he was behind me. I was irritated they were going out a spur road I usually drop the hammer on. The police cruiser was on my tail as it dropped to 25mph. I couldn't stand it, he wouldn't pass so I ripped thru the little tight turns going almost 50. The Jeep is surprisingly stable for such a tall vehicle. He got with the program and fortunately turned off to join the others in a small clearing behind a little ranch close to the border. Who knows what is going on.
On down the road almost got rear ended by a BP vehicle. Got to my hiking point then for 30 minutes was entertained by a pair of jets flying along; I do not know how they could have avoided going into Mexican Airspace. By this time I was wondering what the actual F was going on.
The hike? oh yes, an unplanned very pleasant off trail loop along one small rocky crest, across a grassy wooded ravine and back on another rocky crest. The geology here is wonderful. Small clusters of rocks in little circles. Flat almost sidewalk like points. No evidence of travel. Throwing a sleeping bag down on a clear night would with the right timing yield incredible star views. Still green but drying out fast. A few flowers, saw a deer and amazingly on the exploratory drive out a hunter with a bunch of dogs which loved lots of petting.
Drive back tons of border patrol on the road, in fact I saw only one civilian vehicle besides myself. Enjoyed the puffy cottonball clouds, and the day in general. |
