| no partners | | A filler hike, waiting on fall or something to start. Nice and cool in the upper 40's to start. End of a road I had wanted to do for some time. No tank or mine or anything I could find. A miner's cairn and old campfire. Would be a stellar place for glassing for hunters.
I hiked along a ridgeline for some views. I saw a place I would go to later. The rock was crazy volcanic with voids, crystals, sharp edges and weird solutioning. I went to a low alcove which was surprisingly deep but the floor mostly filled in with silt. Found one rock with evidence of workings. I drove back down the road to park near the area of the pictographs which I intended to explore further. My knee twinged in a psychosomatic moment as this was where it had given out on me months ago.
Above the pictograph overhang was an amazing rock platform again with flat wonderful spots, some areas which would have water pockets in rain and a rock window forming with evidence of water flow thru it with storms. I nicknamed this Biatch Natural Bridge. Because to get a terrible picture from above it required me to go up about 50 feet vertical, about 200 feet horizontal then down about 50 feet. The bushwaking and scrambling was brutal and took me about an hour total. No kidding. Resulted in shredded sunshirt, bloody arms, legs, and shredded shorts and a scraped up butt from all the sliding and scraping along rock ledges. I could have really used a handline and cursed myself repeatedly looking toward the Jeep. Cliffed out I would look down and say hey it's only 10 feet but when your knee is not 100% it might was well be 30. Always carry spare clothing in your vehicle.
I did not climb down to stand in the opening. When it's cold and I can wear lots of clothing I will be back. Pretty spot and it tracks with some other pictographs in the area. I will work on trying to retrace the old route. |
