| no partners | | From my parking area I crossed the road and followed a trail for 500 feet. Next, you'll see a natural rocky area leading up. Turn left and follow the rocky area up. This seemed to end after hiking a total of about 1/4 mile. After that you'll need to do some scrambling to get to the high point. It gets rather steep in some sections. Once you make it to the top you'll see a rock pile. There was a brick at the top serving as a memorial for a dog named Maui which refers to Pongo Hill. I'm not sure where Pongo Hill is but perhaps it is nearby.
At the top, I saw a good trail leading North. Based on the maps I looked at, the trail seemed to head North. I thought no matter where the trail left me in the end, I could find a way to walk around the peak and get back to Starr Pass road where I parked. At the Northern-most part of my track, I found a junction with a trail continuing North and another heading West. I decided to take the trail heading West which I felt might go around the mountain. The trail turned and went Southwest. Then, at a certain point, the trail turned and headed Southeast. Up ahead I could see palm trees. I was thinking that area might be private property, but I didn't see any fences or signs. Somewhere before the palms, the trail seemed to end. I walked over to the palms and took some photos. These palms must be non-native, but they seemed to be doing well in this wash area. The brush was so thick it would be impossible to hike through it. I continued going Southeast although there was no real trail. The hiking was pretty easy because the terrain was relatively flat with minimal obstacles. I crossed about 3 washes and then made my way back down to Starr Pass Rd. Once at the road, I could see my truck about 1,000 feet away. I got to my truck before dark and was glad I took the trail down instead of the same way I went up.
