| partners | | bruce and linda invited john and i to do the balanced rock loop
it's been ten years for me, so we were in
started hiking up hieroglyphics trail around 0730
upper 30s, but i only wore three layers and was fine since it was uphill
looked around the petroglyphs for a few minutes
found a use trail that led near balanced rock
we cut over to it and found another use trail that we followed to the peak
will have to compare my track to the hike with denny and john ten years ago
some of it looked familiar but i know we took a different route at times
a few little scrambles and one climb up a ten foot chute
took a long snack break at the summit
very hazy
saw one guy coming up as we were leaving, and crossed paths with a big group of gals who had come from carney
we also ran into two groups of guys who seemed to have no idea what they were doing
the most recent fire burned both sides of the ridgeline
we took the ridgeline over to hieroglyphic trail and started down
steep and loose at the top, but overall better than i remember it
lots of people at the petroglyphs and we had plenty of company as we finished
i had forgotten how much fun this hike is
challenging terrain, beautiful weather, great scenery and good company
