| no partners | | Early morning hike at SoMo. Got started a little after 6:30. Started with headlamp, I only needed it for the first 20 minutes. Nice trail, though a little rocky on the initial climb. I kind of like that and then the two valleys back to back make this a unique trail. It would be near the top of my SoMo hikes if it had a proper TH (at the bottom) and if you could do a loop without street walking. They changed the name to Thondum Wihom about a year ago, but apparently someone didn’t care for the name change and has cut all the labels off the trail post, except for the one at the top at the Buena Vista TH. That could not have been easy to do. The metal Thondum Wihom is still standing at the top and I noticed the metal Geronimo sign is still standing at the bottom.
Beautiful morning, though I didn’t see the sunrise (or the sun, for that matter), because of how the trail lays on the mountain. Encountered 1 jogger and two hikers. Minimal wildlife, a rabbit and some quail. |
