Velva thought it would be nice to hike over to the RR tracks after DRIVING and meeting me a different road crossings while I HIKED 13+ miles. I wasn’t overly enthused with the idea , but it is hard to pass up a hike with the wife, so off we went.
Thankfully, what we did was a pretty easy hike. From the Zimmerman TH, we followed the trail down into Davidson Canyon and over to the three bridges. Neat confluence of transportation engineering. I didn’t even realize there was a second track in the area until we got into the canyon. There was some decent sized trees and a running stream which added to the setting. The tail exits up a cool side canyon, crosses the road and then passes underneath the trellis. There is actually a metal awning underneath the track which is littered with stones. I guess thrown down by passing trains? This was good enough for both of us. We hiked back over the bridge and bike bypass trail back to the Zimmerman TH.
Neat area. Loved hiking with the wife. I do wish I had had more energy for the hike so I could have enjoyed it more. Nice thing. This is one less mile of passage 8 that I have to do. |
