Got to the Apache Wash TH a little before 6am. I had planned on using my headlamp, but my batteries had died on me. Ended up just using the “brick” (my Garmin). It doesn’t give off as much light, but it works. Actually enjoyed hiking this trail in the dark. I felt like the darkness allowed me to skip the early sections, which I’ve done multiple times doing other trails and then as I continued on the Brawler I was able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise. Trail hasn’t changed too much. Flat, smooth with some minor curvature. Ideal for biking or jogging, which I did once it became light enough. Did this hike as a in and out. They have “adopted” a trail connector which crosses the Badger Brawler and runs from the Skip Rimza to the Esplanade. This was a use track that has gained definition over the years and the preserve apparently decided to add it to the system. If you can’t beat them, join them.
Quiet morning, (with the exception of exception of the ongoing road work occurring on Dove Valley Rd.). Only one other car in the lot when I got there. Encountered 1 biker, 3 hikers and a couple of quail. Beautiful morning. Great temp, no breeze and a nice sunrise. |
