| partners | | well that wasn't easy . I asked Kelly for a couple options for hiking S Mtn and Ambika picked this one. Kelly was right about the parking being crazy. I finally found a spot and off we went, I should say and "UP" we went and up some more but no, not done yet, up and up again. And just when you think you're done with that, there's a tad more for good measure. And so many people and dogs. Thankfully the temps were pretty nice with the filtered sky.
We waved at Goat. We picked up a hitchhiker along the way, but after awhile, she decided to go with some other hikers. We were heading east by that time and enjoying the scenery and the nice breeze. It really is a wonderful geologic environment up there. At a couple different points we could see our trail for the way back, but then we started going down switchbacks in a different direction. We were going in the right direction but pulling an AZT. We rounded back west again on the Javelina and some more UPhill.
Ambika saw the glyphs so we went over and looked at them. A couple different kind of squirrels entertained us for a minute or so. We continued along and eventually up and up the Javelina. But wait, yep, there's a little more up before we finally reach the junction.
It was real quiet for the whole Javelina part of our hike so we enjoyed that. Am I out of elevation shape, yeppers. But I did okay, however, the nice temps and slight breeze helped and thus when I got to gym class, I like to be under the fan. There were still lots more people coming up and down. And dogs too. Needless to say, the going down went a little faster, but you still had to pay attention to your footing.
We had a post hike lunch at The Farm Kitchen. Nice environment but I wasn't too impressed with the food. My Buzzed Bunny was pretty good though.
Watch from trail start 5.56 mi, 10:48AM-1:42PM, 135 avg bpm/167 max, 45% max and 40% anaerobic and 15% aerobic burning 1205 calories and 1283 elevation gain (1283-2043 feet). No temp info. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
