| partners | | Met Kelly & Bruce at Pima Canyon and got started around 0800. Headed up Marcos De Niza, then up Guadalupe Ridge. I think my Garmin watch told me a few times I was about to die on the uphill portions. Plus my left foot has been hurting for about a week, and I’ve done nothing beneficial to aid in that recovery. Might have to take a few days off. The mild scrambling on the ridge is one of my favorite parts of SoMo.
Dropped down to National and headed east. Came into Hidden Valley at Fat Man’s Pass and stayed in Hidden Valley and the lower wash. Made an extra trip through and across the bridge. Side trip to a mine, which has some granite I really like. Spotted a few glyphs, most of which I’d seen before, but a couple were new to me. The wash is also a fun area to explore.
Kelly made her departure when the wash reached National, and Bruce & I made our way over to some short stretches of Mormon Loop & Javelina to get to Ridgeline. Despite being at the busy end of the park, Ridgeline is a surprisingly good workout, roller coastering along with some steep sections of loose footing. After Ridgeline, we took the eastern half of Pima Canyon Loop along the eastern boundary of the park, and around Beacon Hill back to the trailhead. I whined through the short uphill section, but the extra mileage was good.
Nice to hike with Bruce and Kelly again. Fun loop with some nice stretches of solitude. Even the busier sections had few hikers today. |
