| no partners | | I made another plan to get to the summit of Top Hat. I saw from uploaded routes that I went up the wrong side before and I also spotted some trails on aerials that made routes of on the Route Editor. I got the SE corner of the mountain and took the wrong track in because I wasn't paying enough attention. so when the trail got to its high point, I was close enough that I just bushwhacked the rest of the way up and then took the main routes down on the north side.
At the top I saw 2 dirt bikers having trouble getting up a road that seemed to turn into a trail as it got to a saddle. I was contemplating which way to take down from the top. One way was down a steep drop with loose rock and no visible trail, despite what the aerials seemed to show. the other way was along a ridgelilne, which I took. At the end of that route, it ended at the saddle, where the bikers still were, and there was also an arch I've never seen before.
From the saddle I took the main visible trail the continued north past where I made my track. It ended at the Hope is Lost trail/wash, so I took that back to 1356 and back to the trailhead. on the way back I tried to explore the Tomahawk Mine, which doesn't seem like much and is also hiding in plain sight.
Sunny to start, then cloudy and a little windy with some very light rain towards the end. the humidity was a reminder that the monsoon is coming. |
