| no partners | | After playing around down by the Gila River near Cochrane, we headed up the "highway" towards Kelvin to check out the newly-completed AZT section #16. It was a little hard to find, and when we were on it, we didn't know if we were on Section 16 or Section 15. We thought it was supposed to parallel the river, but it climbed a butte and started snaking away from the river. Plus there had been a fork in the trail close to the river, so we figured maybe that was where we should have gone. We backtracked all the way down the hillside, on to a sandbar, only to realize that we weren't on any trail at all. Sad. By then, it was time for the group to split up, so we headed on down the road.
I notice in the map that the route is shown going over the bridge from where we started, so I guess we weren't on the 16 section at all. Our friends did go over the bridge and try to find the 16, but all they found was a driveway with no signs. This part may be done with construction, but the signage needs improvement. |
