Once I got to the top, I did a loop of this trail, Alta and Ma Ha Tauk. The clouds and breezes cooled me down a bit. Still, less than a mile along Alta my pants were soaked with sweat to the knees. I had pondered hiking to Maricopa Peak, but once I got to that junction I wasn't feeling it. It was slow going down Alta with the rockiness of the trail.
The hike back on MaHaTauk was a slog. The sun came out and the breezes went away. And this trail has way more AEG than I remembered. It wasn't that hot, but being drenched in sweat I couldn't cool off. Every small climb was an effort.
Saw a coyote along MaHaTauk that looked to be hunting for lunch along the hillside. There were also several caterpillars along this trail munching on the vegetation. The recent rains seem to have given a green fuzz to the hillside. |
