Early morning up and down on the Hau’Pal. I was pleasantly surprised to find the gate open at 4:40 when I got there. It sure when the gates officially open (thought it was 5), but these earlier hours work for me. Even at 4:45 it was getting light out and no headlamp was needed.

Very windy out which probably contributed to the lousy air quality. Had the trail to myself going up though I did have a hiker hot on my heel. I created a mini rock slide to slow him so he wouldn’t pass me.

Hit Star Peak, took a few photos and headed down. Encountered 6 hikers on the way. No wildlife. Surprised to to see horse droppings on the trail. Not a trail you’d expect to see a horse on.
