| partners | | this was the fourth and final segment of our tahoe rim hikes this trip
janie dropped us off at big meadow around 0800
we headed south across big meadow and into old growth forest, passing round lake
at about five miles, we intersected the pacific crest trail at meiss meadow and turned northwest
the two trails combine for several miles, along the upper truckee river and then up a granite bowl to shower lake and continuing through pine and oak forest
lots of streams crossing the trail through here
after reaching the high point, there is a long descent on granite boulders
there is a burn area near echo summit
we finished uphill to echo lake, where janie picked us up
different terrain in this segment, all of it beautiful
temps were good and weather held
saw maybe a dozen people hiking, including some thru hikers
random thoughts:
the trt trail is in excellent shape - smooth surface and moderate grades
scenery is fantastic with a variety of views, trees and granite
i love the eastern sierra terrain
john's plan was challenging but within our abilities
the two overnights were a lot of fun
janie shuttling us made the trip possible - a big shout out to her
the current plan is to finish the other four segments a year from now
looks to be slightly more difficult
