to break up the drive, we spent a night at serrano campground near big bear lake
set up mid afternoon, then john and i had time for a short hike
we could walk over to cougar crest trailhead right from camp
took that up to the intersection with the PCT
kind of wanted to summit mount bertha, but we wanted time to drive around a bit before sunset
smooth trail at a moderate grade, typical pines, oaks and granite boulders
good hike for a travel day
hadn't been in this area so nice to see some of big bear
the only downside was the ant infestation in the the campground |
