| partners | | made a visit to lake tahoe in 2007 with some friends from work
while they went to the casino, i went for a few hikes in the desolation wilderness and along the tahoe rim trail
have always wanted to get back to the area, and kept both on my wish list
john put some dates and a plan in place and we decided to hike part of the TRT with janie as our shuttle driver
janie dropped us off at mount rose summit trailhead friday morning and we set off
through tahoe meadows, pine forest, across a few open areas
good views of lake tahoe throughout
we took breaks at seven and ten miles and stopped for the day at marlette campground at fifteen or so
this backcountry camp had picnic tables, bear boxes, a pit toilet and potable water from an old pump
challenging day with packs and 1800 feet of elevation gain
two solo gals shared the campground, and we chatted with one of them
quiet night with no bear activity
just nine and a half miles to hike out in the morning, and janie picked us up at spooner summit late morning
had time for janie to put the kayak in, then back to zephyr cove for the evening
good weather, good segment
using mileage from farout and the national geographic trail guide, and john's elevation gain from route scout |
