| partners | | Although I had biked this loop off-and-on many times over the years, it had been early 2022 since I last rode it. And so after hearing how bad the conditions were, (from a casual-acquaintance mountain-biker who had never biked in Bulldog previously) I figured we might as well check it out on foot.
While the first part was relatively smooth due to dirt-bike activity, it gradually devolved into a lot of rough and rocky areas as well as vegetation overgrowth. As much as it would take to make the trail reasonably rideable again, I doubt I'll make any effort, or ride it again.
Whatever, today it's a hike. We checked out the Milkweed plants at the Monarch Waystation... OH WAIT! There ARE NO milkweed plants to be found... Yup, whoever planted them did not see fit to screen the new plants off from wildlife, and yes, the plants had been chewed to the ground.
So even though I watered the plants somewhat regularly in 2018 until the pallets of water bottles were empty, nothing else was done and so the Monarch Waystation no longer exists.
However... over the last 5 years we have located at least two dozen milkweed plants along the Western slopes of a number minor washes up to a mile West of the original plantings, which we have documented and passed on to the Monarch Watch Organization.
The rest of the hike was simply following various washes and horse trails, and yes, even followed some ruts created by ATC's. |
