| no partners | | | Wanted to hike up this unnamed peak as there was a geocache at the summit that I wanted to find. Parked near the Sycamore staging area and walked along State Route 87 till I was near the eastern side of the hill. The slope looked the easiest from here and it would allow me to avoid the large cliffs at the summit. Followed one of the washed up, before finding a fence that went all the way to cliffs. Followed it for a while till I found a good place to cross under it, then proceeded to make my way up and around the cliff face. This side of the hill was annoying covered with many slippery shale pieces. Kept slipping while walking on them, (it's time to get new shoes, the tread is worn down on my current hiking shoes), and fell once and heard my trekking pole snap near the base. Ended up having to spend $27 to get a replacement part from the company, cheaper than buying a brand new one, but still $27..... Soon made it to the top and signed the geocache logbook. Headed down following a gentler slope and eventually reached State Route 87. Hiked back to the staging area. Enjoyable hike in all, though I think I hiked more miles on State Route 87 then the mountain. |
