Hiked down to the cattle tank and then to the old road that leads up the mountain. This road, goes all the way up to the top. While not marked on any of my current maps, you could still drive up here with a jeep, though since it doesn't join any roads at the bottom you can't. Followed the road and passed a few water troughs and a lot of black plastic tubing along the road up. At the top it appears the road still continues, but it's completely overgrown and impassable. Passed by someone in camo garb, presumably a hunter, to the geocaches. Found them both and after a short break at the ridge I headed back down. As I passed the cattle tank on the way down I saw a hunters blind I missed on the way up. Those things blend in well and I usually don't notice them till I'm right next to them. Last hike of this two night camping trip. Was enjoyable and will probably do more camping out here in the future. |
