| partners | | Had planned on hiking AZT 25 with Chris & Brian but decided on the drive up just providing the shuttle and getting a good hike in would be better. I have a plan to hike up to Whiterock Mesa with a side trip to Polles Mesa some day so I may be back with some exploring to boot.
We made good time up to Payson and shuttled up to Pine. FR 1655 off Hardscrabble Road is on my onX Offroad App and rated for 4x4, SxS & ATV. We drove in to the power line where FR 1654 begins at 1.3 miles.
Chris had the route down the powerline and over to the AZT. The road was rocky but the trail is good. I found a Happy Birthday mylar balloon along the way and stopped at a fence about 6 miles in.
I turned back at the fence and some clouds moved in and the breeze picked up making fun of my thoughts it could be a warm hike. I kicked up a jack rabbit and moments later a raptor swooped down but came up empty. No Wild Kingdom scene for me.
I passed 2 quads on the drive out and hardscrabble road had several SUVs on it. Nice weekend trip. |
