| no partners | | Started at the ATV trailhead on Usery Pass road and did a hike on an around the Usery Spur. I started hiking up the small hill by the parking lot as a lot of trails going up there look pretty prominent. They soon get faint, steep and slippery with the loose scree, but I was able to make it up without incident. Went down the other side and got on the spur trail.
The Hawes group looks like they're extending their way up towards Usery Park. There are other trails now besides the Usery Spur and the markers have the Hawes logo and names. The one trail I took is the Rattler Trail, which takes you over to the Talon Trail. I did that and took Talon up to the Pass Mountain Loop, went out and back on the north end of the mountain then headed back on the spur trail, taking another detour on the 4wd roads just to do something a little different. I hit 5 miles just before the parking lot, so I took Maricopa Madness down and back to add a little more mileage.
Talon and Pass Mountain Trails had the most hikers. Bikers were on all the trails, but not too many. Weather was hazy and visibility bad to start, but it got better by the time I was done. Temperature was very cool and comfortable the entire time. |
