| partners | | With fond childhood memories of the original narrow-gauge tracks, Bruce begged me to pick a hike out past the standard-gauge 1923 Hewitt railroad tracks.
Road
Major grading past [ Roblas Butte ] , where you drive through the short scenic Sonoran canyon. Then, road work in spots up to the tailhead, but sprinkled with ankle busters to keep the rustic feel intact.
#12 of [ My Top 20 Favorites ]
The grass clump field, which you typically feel your way through, was a visible route. I imagine I've seen that in the past, but long enough to forget. Not one locust snag and minimal catclaw was easily dodged. Fooding debris obstacles where Log Trough Canyon joins just before Fireline Trail from my previous two summer solos are gone. Apple trees are down to their final blooms. Some are void of blooms, but clearly had bloomed.
Synopsis
I hadn't hiked with Bruce since he was in his sixties. Needed a Reavis fix, always delivers. Nice temps. Borderline chilly in Reavis Foxtail Valley. In honor, I added Fox to RS nature sounds with a twist of Wally. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Better than anticipated, good variety. Including some [ Yellow Salsify ] buds, I mentioned the seed heads on mature plants produce large, white, fluffy "puffballs" typically 3–4 inches in diameter that resemble [ Microseris ] . |
