The dew point was high when I started out at 9:42, and the horizon was really hazy. It actually felt hot on the trail, and a cool breeze near the summit felt good. After I left the summit the skies were getting more stormy, and the wind was picking up from the east. Instead of starting down the trail from the saddle I went on the Weatherford to look for some flowering senecio. I was surprised none of it was flowering on the western side of the Peaks when pretty much every other flower is blooming. I was more surprised that the senecio growing on the Weatherford trail on the east side of Agassiz was just starting to grow for the season. The hail and lightning picked up as I went down the Weatherford and I found myself at Fremont saddle for a while. I was looking up at Agassiz at one point when lightning hit the ridge just below the summit. |
